We had a great time on Friday at our Holiday Party! This year definitely outdid the rest: with several hundred team members dressed in their ugliest sweaters, hanging out all night on two of the double-decker tour buses in Long Beach. We also visited a few local spots too... Everyone had a great time!

Giving Back: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Several team members from The So Cal Group participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. As a group, we were asked to donate $100, but the group surpassed that goal and raised over $300! Congrats to all who participated and thanks to our coordinators: Corina and Karine!

Charity Dodgeball Tournament!

Competing against 12 other teams in West Los Angeles, The SoCal Group enjoyed several competitive games of dodgeball this weekend. Happily, The SoCal Group, Inc team took home the winner's trophy, but the real winners were the two charities that were supported by funds raised for the tournament: The Boys and Girls Club and Operation Smile. Thanks to all participating companies for helping raise almost $2,000.

Participating in Komen's Walk for the Cure

Hundreds of people gathered in the end of October in support of The Aventura Sailing Association’s Second Annual Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure. Participants chose from two different walking paths: one 45 minute walk around the island or a 2 hour scenic walk around the harbor. Participants were asked to make a $15 minimum donation and also received free admission to the Ocean Institute that day. They also enjoyed food, drinks, and a raffle after the walk.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Series (http://ww5.komen.org/) raises funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. The event was held to raise additional funds in support of the cause, to celebrate breast cancer survivors, and honor those who have lost their battle with the disease. The first race took place in Dallas in 1983 with 800 participants. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.

Local participating organizations included: The Aventura Sailing Club, The Marine Institute, and The Southern California Group, Inc (http://www.socalgroupinc.com).

“Participating in The Walk for the Cure was important to me because it gave us a great opportunity to give our time to a good cause and raise awareness about an important issue in the community,” said Shauna Hobbins, an employee of The Southern California Group, Inc. “We hope to have an even bigger group participate next year and continue the tradition for years to come.”

PRLog (Press Release) – Nov 03, 2010 – The Boys & Girls Club of Venice held their 5th Annual Champion of Youth Gala on Friday, October 8th, 2010 at the Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey. The Gala included both a silent and live auction. The auction featured over 150 prizes such as jewelry, wine, clothing, and Caribbean beach vacations. Other popular items included boxing gloves autographed by World Champion Boxer Manny Pacquiao and autographed memorabilia signed by NBA Champion Kobe Bryant. All proceeds from the auction went toward the club’s academic enrichment, arts, extracurricular and leadership development programs.

The Boys & Girls Club (http://www.bgca.org/Pages/index.aspx) is designed to be a place where the youth of the community can feel safe and have the opportunity to develop successful habits in regards to leadership and social roles. The club maintains a low fee of $20 a year so that all youth of the community have the ability to participate. The mission of The Boys and Girls Club is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

“Giving back to the community’s youth was an extremely rewarding experience,” said April Weber, a participant and employee of The SoCal Group. “I’m glad to know that because of our efforts, these kids will have more tools to help them achieve their long term goals and the opportunity to impact the community.”

Silent Auction for the Boys and Girls Club

We had a blast this weekend helping raise money at a silent auction benefiting the Boys and Girls Club. The event took place at the Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey and featured over 150 items with all proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Club. Olympic Medalist Visits Our Office!

American short-track speed skater, Simon Cho, was a member of the US Olympic Team for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Simon was able to visit our office last week to talk to us about his experience training to become an Olympic athlete, and to tell the details of his adventures as an Olympic athlete so far. Simon earned the bronze medal in the 5000 m relay in Vancouver this Winter, in addition to the silver medal he won in the World Championships earlier this year.

Rock 'N' Roll Marathon!

Almost 25,000 runners participated in this year's Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon and inaugural half marathon this past weekend. The first to finish this year's course was Richard Limo, of Kenya in 2:09:59. He also placed second in this years LA Marathon. A new course was introduced this year: runners started in Balboa Park, and ran through part of downtown, the Padres Stadium, Mission Valley and Fiesta Island, before ending up at Sea World. Our group enjoyed participating in the race, as well as cheering on participants throughout the city. Proceeds from the event are used to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Operation Smile Fundraiser

Operation Smile is a mobilized force of medical professional and caring hearts who provide safe, effective reconstruction surgery for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate. We attended The Smile Event, a fundraiser in New York City this week. The event included dinner, a live auction and a dance to benefit Operation Smile. Jessica Simpson was the Honorary Chair and Nick Cannon served as the event host.

Mud Run 2010!

The Irvine Lake Mud Run was a 3.8 mile race near Irvine Lake. Participants made their way up and down hills, through a "car wash" and through several mud pits and obstacles before crossing the finish line. Everyone was muddy and everyone had a blast!

Due to overwhelming client demand and response to the past two year’s success we just opened a new office in Salt Lake City! Leading our expansion team is Ronald, a manager who has been in the marketing field for several years, working with clients like Verizon, Quill and AT&T. This new office will be providing outsourced sales and marketing for Quill, a subsidiary of Staples (office supplies). We are excited to congratulate this team for their success in the past and are looking forward to them making big waves in the industry in the future.

Olympic Challenge Campout

Let the games begin! Teams competed in football and kickball tournaments. With the AT&T team dominating again. Others participated in roasting marshmallows over the campfire and living it up in the wilderness. Freezing temperatures and falling rain did not put a damper on those happy campers!

We had a blast attending a leadership development conference in Dallas, Texas this weekend. Saturday was spent listening to speakers covering a variety of topics including: the attributes of success, impressing clients, building business, giving back to our communities, and leadership styles. We are proud to announce that President, Tedford Picha received recognition for being the top new manager of 2009.

We spent Sunday touring the sites of Dallas and Fort Worth. We enjoyed the tour of the Cowboys' new stadium and experienced much of the local Texan culture.

Ducks Game

The Anaheim Ducks took on the Saint Louis Blues this week, making a great game. The ducks scored the winning shot. We're still stoked about the referees allowing the players to have fist fights on the ice. Its never boring at the Honda center!

Neighborhood kickball game

The toughest of the tough teamed up this weekend to play some kickball at Eisenhower park in Orange. The day consisted of two lengthy games, with several campaigns competing against each other. Unfortunately, the AT&T campaign demolished the Quill campaign in the first game. The second game was closer, between the AT&T campaign and the Verizon campaign. In the end, the AT&T team earned the winning title. Afterward, we all enjoyed a BBQ in the park.

Feeding Skid Row

Giving back to the community is one of our core values. This weekend we made over 200 lunches to deliver to the less fortunate living on Skid Row in Los Angeles, Calif. The food definitely went fast, we'll know to prepare even more meals next time!

3rd Annual Big Bear Retreat!

This year we participated in an Amazing Race-like day of events over acres and acres of the mountain in Big Bear, Calif. If there was one word to describe this event, it would be "competition." Games were played, relays were run, trash was talked, and battles were fought. In the end, we were all friends again.

A group of us gathered at the Boys and Girls of Venice to serve club members and their families Thanksgiving dinner. We were joined by the Lakers girls, as well as Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum.

Big Bear Retreat 2008!

We were all looking forward to it for months: The 2nd Annual Big Bear Retreat. There was fierce competition between several teams and many challenging events. Participants enjoyed basketball, football and volleyball tournaments; kayaking, and archery among other challenges.

Camping Trip: La Jolla Indian Reservation

A quick trip down the 15 freeway led us to the La Jolla Indian Reservation campground. Good times were enjoyed by all as we took a break from the city and enjoyed the nature around us. Days were spent rafting down the San Luis Rey River, and nights were spent around the campfire with hot dogs and s'mores.
